Fishing on Lake George

Bring your boat or rent a boat to enjoy a day of fishing on the St Johns River steps from your cabin, campsite or RV Campground. A short ride up the river is Lake George, the second largest lake in Florida, where you will find some of the best bass fishing near Daytona Beach. Since largemouth bass typically feeds on the beds of eelgrass, look for them in the grassy lily pads along the flats. Sunshine bass is also significant in Lake George.

Lake Dexter/Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge

Downstream from the campground are Lake Dexter and Lake Woodruff. They are natural, freshwater lakes in a national wildlife refuge that is operated by The National Park Service. Both lakes are known for a variety of species including striped and largemouth bass, depending on the season. Bass fishing is available year-round in Lake Woodruff. Be careful to avoid the manatees while boating in this area, especially in the designated protection zones.

You can also book a guided fishing tour where experienced anglers will take you to their favorite fishing grounds on the river and area lakes and streams. There are also restaurants, shops and bait and tackle supplies nearby.
